Neural efficiency and general intelligence: Is it mental quickness or timing?

Today I made a post at IM-HOME discussing the neural efficiency = general intelligence hypothesis (Arthur Jensen) where I make the case that recent research suggests that temporal or timing g (the internal brain clock) is a more fundamental cause of neural efficiency than the dominant Jensen reaction time g hypothesis. Check it out.

Temporal g v reaction time g: Rammsayer et al temporal g research references

Those who have been following the Brain Clock blog since its inception, know that the work of Thomas Rammsayer and colleagues is one of the major reasons I started this project.  I feel strongly that their identificaiton of temporal g, versue classic Jenson reaction time g, is a major foundation supporting the importance of the internal brain clock in intellectual functioning.  So, I decided I should post some of the major references of this group.  Enjoy.

More on meditation, IM and quieting the busy wandering mind

A series of my recent posts have suggested a link between the positive effect of Interactive Metronome training and silencing our "unquiet mind" (due to the default brain network), via attentional control or focus. I have suggested a parallel to meditation. I just ran across another post that references changes in the brains of people who meditate. Interesting stuff. - Posted using BlogPress from Kevin McGrew's iPad

On-demand focus: IM neurotechnology generated meditative type focus

I have made a follow-up post to the Brain Clock post suggesting a possible link between meditation and synchronized metronome tapping (in the form of Interactive Metronome neurotechnology training)--both being able to focus controlled attention and shut down the mind-wandering busy self-talk of the default brain network. This new post is at the IM-HOME blog. - Posted using BlogPress from Kevin McGrew's iPad
