On the road again traveling - blogging lite

I'm on the road again, this time for personal business. I'm in Gainesville, Fl helping my daughter and son-in-law deal with the first week of out-patient chemo for Ezra's (their two year old) just diagnosed ALL (leukemia). My role is to be older bro's (Rowan) playmate while they are off doing hospital visits and other errands.

I anticipate the 4 year old toddler will run me ragged. I return home this Saturday.

If you want to learn more about their adventure, my daughter has a very nice professional blog called Manic Mother. She is a chip of the old blog :)

I don't expect much time to blog...except for possible "push" type FYI posts re: content posted at other blogs.....or...mobile blogging (check out the link.....it is very cool...but, of course, I tend to be a tech nerd)......with pictures of activities, people, etc. at the conference.

I shall return.

Personal post: Help Ezra kick cancers ass

My two year old grandson, Ezra, was diagnosed with ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia) this past week. I've never used my professional blogs for personal posts...but this is an exception I must make.

My daughter Beth has a very nice "mommy" blog called Manic Mother [she is a chip off the old bog :) ]. I'm extremely proud of her. The unexpected Dx of ALL has rocked their families life. I'm doing what I can to provide support, but my daughter is seeking support from the social network of the internet.

As a personal favor to me, I'd like to ask my readers to check out my daughters post about their experience. She is seeking support. Don't respond to me. If you want to help, contact my daughter via her excellent blog. If you twitter, she can be found at @manicmother.

I'm proud of my daughter and her family.

Working memory summary brief by Avner Stern

I recently was sent a copy of a nice brief summary re: the construct of working memory. Consider it a nice brief fact sheet. The brief was provided by Dr. Avner Stern of Behavioral Health Specialists, a provider of the Cogmed Working Memory Training program.

This is a pass-along FYI notice to my readers. It does not represent an endorsement of the Cogmed program by me.

Time Doc Reading Inbox: 5-7-09 (Brain rhythm research)

As I've lamented before..."so much to read...so little time." I simply can't keep up with the deluge of research publications related to the IQ Brain Clock. The diversity of fields involved in the study of human timing, time perception, mental timing, etc. is simply amazing. I download PDF articles (constantly) with good intentions...to read them and blog about those I think are important for readers of this blog. Good intentions....but lack of time (and I'm having the same problem with my other blog - IQs Corner)

Today I again cleaned out in Time Doc Reading Inbox on my hard drive. I made some decisions (often difficult) on articles that I will simply file in e-folders. I culled those I had already skimmed and blogged about. This left me with a handful of articles, book chapters, etc. that I want to skim and comment on. But I know I will find another dozen within the week.

The new Time Doc Reading Inbox (5-7-09) features articles from the special issue of Cortex that deals with brain rhythm research. Prior "inbox" postings can be find by scrolling down the right-side of this blog.

I hope some of these articles pique the interest of some readers...so much so that they will ask me for a copy of an article (or two, or.....)...and I will provide a copy in exchange for brief guest blog posts regarding the manuscripts.

Any takers? Please contact me at iap@earthlink.net if you are interested.

Snowball the dancing bird: The academic article found

I finally found an "in press" copy of the academic article that seems to have caused the recent stir regarding Snowball the dancing bird.  See prior post re: implications for topics covered at the IQ Brain Clock.

The article the Patel et al is in process in the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences.  Click here to view.

Enjoy.  You gotta love science when it studies the behaviors of a dancing bird posted on YouTube.

Music perception and the dancing bird

Music perception, rhythm, beat perception and production have been topics discussed at this blog as the mental or IQ Brain time clock and temporal processing seems to be intimately involved in these functions. Interestingly there is evidence from the animal kingdom that similar basic processes at play.

An interesting a fun example as a famous video clip of a dancing bird named Snowball. Watch it all...it gets very good.

Thanks to Amy Vega for sending this to me.Technorati Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , ,
